Special Events During OptiCon® 2017

Friday, October 6

General Session: Innovation in Vision: Past, Present, and Future

Ted Gioia's talk will draw on some of the historical and archival material from the Optical Heritage Museum to focus on how eye care has evolved over the ages to products and technologies that the industry promotes today. He will include lifestyle, computing, and specialty concepts.

We hope you will join us for this session that is intended to be both educational and entertaining.

Ted Gioia has been involved in eyecare as a consultant with McKinsey and the Boston Consulting Group, and as an executive with Essilor and Sola International. He currently serves as an adviser to the Optical Heritage Museum in Southbridge, Massachusetts. Gioia is the author of ten books, and has also written for the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times and other leading periodicals. He holds degrees from Oxford University and Stanford Graduate School of Business, and previously served on the faculty of Stanford University.

Mr. Gioia's participation is sponsored by ZEISS.

Saturday, October 7

NFOS College Bowl
Think of it like a version of Jeopardy®: twelve students representing NFOS member Opticianry schools, will be answering a series of questions and bonus questions for points.  Unlike Jeopardy®, though, the focus is purely on Opticianry: this is the stuff you should know as an optical professional. Come test your optical knowledge with tomorrow’s opticians.
